Behind the Scenes

2 Wheel Rider Development: Fueling the Dreams of Young South African Riders

Motocross is more than just a sport—it’s a lifestyle, a passion, and for many young riders, a dream waiting to be realized. In South Africa, the motocross and enduro racing scenes are brimming with talent, but for many aspiring racers, the opportunity to compete internationally remains out of reach. Enter 2 Wheel Development, a non-profit organization led by three dedicated motocross enthusiasts: Adrian de Hutton, David Mc Lellan, and Cheryl Mc Lellan. Together, they have taken it upon themselves to raise funds and create opportunities for young riders to gain international experience and exposure.

The Passion Behind the Initiative

At the heart of 2 Wheel Development are three individuals whose love for motocross runs deep. Adrian de Hutton boasts a long history in the sport, having raced extensively in South Africa and continuously supported the local racing community in Cape Town. His knowledge, experience, and commitment to developing young talent make him a vital force behind the initiative.

Joining him are David and Cheryl Mc Lellan, passionate motocross parents who have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of international competition. Their own child, Camden Mc Lellan, had the opportunity to race abroad at a young age, and they saw how it accelerated development, improved skill levels, and instilled a hunger for success. Now, they are determined to provide similar opportunities to other young South African and African motocross and enduro riders.

The Mission: Expanding Horizons for Young Riders

The goal of 2 Wheel Development is simple but powerful: to send talented young riders abroad, giving them a taste of international competition and the invaluable experience that comes with it. Racing against top-tier riders from around the world not only elevates skill levels but also fosters resilience, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the sport.

South Africa has long been a breeding ground for exceptional riders, yet many struggle to make the leap onto the global stage due to financial constraints and limited exposure. 2 Wheel Rider Development aims to bridge this gap by raising funds through sponsorships, donations, and community-driven initiatives, ensuring that promising young riders get the chance to race internationally.

The Bigger Picture: South Africans on the Global Stage

Beyond individual rider development, the ultimate vision of 2 Wheel Rider Development is to see more South Africans—and Africans as a whole—competing at the highest levels of motocross and enduro racing. By fostering young talent and providing them with the necessary tools and experience, the hope is that South Africa will one day have a stronger presence in global competitions, from the MXGP and AMA series to the Enduro World Championship.
